Disappointing performance
After seeing this ballet, I have to say, I didn't enjoy it. The choreography, unfortunately, was forgettable for the most part. There were too many scenes with hardly any dancing, but plenty of gesturing, cutesy props like the easels, and over-the-top emotion. It felt more like musical theater than dance, with almost farcical elements. The gorgeous costumes and sets couldn't save it, despite having some fine dancers in the company who were wasted on this production. The overused, cliched can-can music was a letdown. I did appreciate the one duet and some Flamenco scenes. When I go to the ballet, I expect to see skilled dancers execute exciting, new, or classic choreography. This was a major disappointment following the spectacular performance of Toto last season.
